Venison Country Stew Recipe

1 1/2 pounds

1/4 cup
1/2 teaspoon
1/4 teaspoon
2 tablespoons
2 – 16 ounce cans
1 – 15 ounce can
4 medium
2 medium
1 medium
venison round steak
(Makes prime country stew meat.)
all purpose flour
ground black pepper
olive oil
stewed tomatoes
beef broth
carrots, peeled and cut into 1" pieces
potatoes, cut into 8's
onion, chopped

Venison Stew Cooking Time: 60 to 75 minutes
Pan Type: 6 quart pot

Venison Stew Directions

Cut the venison into 1" cubes and place into a plastic bag.
Add the flour, salt and pepper.
Shake bag to coat the venison stew meat.
Heat the oil in the 6 quart pot.
Brown the venison stew meat in the hot oil.
When venison is brown add the stewed tomatoes, beef broth, carrots, potatoes and chopped onions.
Bring the stew mixture to a boil.
Reduce heat, cover and simmer for the allotted time or until venison and vegetables are tender.

Substitute, substitute, substitute. Recipes were made to be messed with. Use alternative ingredients to make your recipes healthier. Cook with broth (low-sodium vegetable, low-fat chicken or beef) instead of with oils. Use vinaigrettes or citrus-juice-based dressings instead of creamy ones, which are often full of saturated fat. Try olive oil, skim milk, or yogurt instead of butter or cream. Re-work dessert recipes that require heavy cream with evaporated skim milk or yogurt. For cakes and other desserts, substitute fresh-fruit puree as a topping instead of frosting. And one of my favorites: pancakes with applesauce, not maple syrup. These changes will give your favorite recipes great new flavor, and your food will be healthier!
