Steamed Broccoli Recipe

1 pound
1 – 2 cups
1/4 teaspoon
1/8 teaspoon
1 tablespoon
1/4 cup
fresh broccoli
water
salt
pepper
butter
parmesan cheese, grated

Recipe Cooking Time: 5 to 7 minutes
Pan Type: Large Saucepan / Steamer Basket


Steamed Broccoli Directions

Wash broccoli and cut into flowerets.
Cut the broccoli stalks into 2" pieces and slice lengthwise about 1/4" thick.
Place the cut broccoli stalks into bottom of steamer basket and layer the flowerets on top.
Pour 1/2" of water into the saucepan.
Place the streamer basket on top and cover with a tight fitting lid. Bring the water to a boil.
Reduce heat to medium and steam the broccoli for the allotted time or until crisp tender.
Remove the steamed broccoli from stove.
The healthy steamed broccoli is ready for the serving dish.
Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
Toss with butter and sprinkle the top with cheese.

Note: The water level should be a bit below steamer basket.

Substitute, substitute, substitute. Recipes were made to be messed with. Use alternative ingredients to make your recipes healthier. Cook with broth (low-sodium vegetable, low-fat chicken or beef) instead of with oils. Use vinaigrettes or citrus-juice-based dressings instead of creamy ones, which are often full of saturated fat.
