1/4 cup
3 tablespoons
garlic heads
olive oil

French bread or crackers

Oven Temp:baked 350°
Recipe Cooking Time: 60 minutes
Pan Type: 9" x 9" pan

Baked Garlic Directions

Preheat Oven.

Pour the water into the pan.
Cut the end off the tops of each head of garlic, enough to expose the garlic cloves inside.
Place the garlic cut side up into a baking baking pan.
Cover the pan with garlic to be baked. Place the garlic into a preheated oven for the allotted time or until the garlic is soft.
Remove pan from the oven and let the baked garlic set for 5 minutes for easier handling.
Drizzle the center of each head with one tablespoon of olive oil. Remove the baked garlic from the skins and place in a small serving bowl.
Spread mild baked garlic onto bread or crackers.

Recipe Serves: 3 – 5

Substitute, substitute, substitute. Recipes were made to be messed with. Use alternative ingredients to make your recipes healthier. Cook with broth (low-sodium vegetable, low-fat chicken or beef) instead of with oils. Use vinaigrettes or citrus-juice-based dressings instead of creamy ones, which are often full of saturated fat. Try olive oil, skim milk, or yogurt instead of butter or cream. Re-work dessert recipes that require heavy cream with evaporated skim milk or yogurt. For cakes and other desserts, substitute fresh-fruit puree as a topping instead of frosting. And one of my favorites: pancakes with applesauce, not maple syrup. These changes will give your favorite recipes great new flavor, and your food will be healthier!
