Cuban Hamburger Recipe

1 1/2 pounds
1 large
1 clove
2 tablespoons
2 tablespoons
1 1/2 cups
4 tablespoons
1/2 teaspoon
1/2 teaspoon
1/4 teaspoon
leanest ground hamburger beef or cut up steak
onion, chopped
garlic, minced
wine vinegar
lemon juice
tomato juice
golden raisins
ground cumin


Pan Type: skillet

Cuban Hamburger Directions

Fry hamburger meat, drain and rinse under warm water.
Put back in skillet; add onion, minced garlic, wine vinegar, lemon juice, tomato juice, raisins, cumin, salt and pepper.
Cook over medium heat until ready to boil, reduce heat to medium low and simmer uncovered until most of liquid is absorbed, stirring often.
Serve cuban hamburger over hot cooked rice.

Recipe Serves About: 4

Note: Rinsing the meat in water will not effect the flavor. It will just make a healthier dish. I thought it sounded horrible until I actually tried it, now I do it all the time.

Substitute, substitute, substitute. Recipes were made to be messed with. Use alternative ingredients to make your recipes healthier. Cook with broth (low-sodium vegetable, low-fat chicken or beef) instead of with oils. Use vinaigrettes or citrus-juice-based dressings instead of creamy ones, which are often full of saturated fat. Try olive oil, skim milk, or yogurt instead of butter or cream. Re-work dessert recipes that require heavy cream with evaporated skim milk or yogurt. For cakes and other desserts, substitute fresh-fruit puree as a topping instead of frosting. And one of my favorites: pancakes with applesauce, not maple syrup. These changes will give your favorite recipes great new flavor, and your food will be healthier!
