Western Baked Beans Recipe

1 large
1 – 16 ounce can
1 – 16 ounce can
1 – 16 ounce can
1/2 cup
1/2 cup
1 tablespoon
2 tablespoons
4 – 6 pieces
lean ground beef
onion, chopped
butter beans, drained
dark red kidney beans, drained
dark brown sugar
prepared mustard
bacon sliced, regular cuts

Oven Temp: 350°
Recipe Cooking Time: 1 1/2 hours
Pan Type: casserole dish

Western Baked Beans Directions

Preheat Oven.

In a large skillet brown the ground beef and onions until meat is no longer pink inside.
Drain well and pour into bean pot casserole dish.
Add to the bean pot the pork n beans, butter beans, kidney beans, ketchup, dark brown sugar, mustard and vinegar.
Mix western beans well.
Layer bacon strips on the top.
Bake the western beans in a hot oven uncovered for the allotted time.

Substitute, substitute, substitute. Recipes were made to be messed with. Use alternative ingredients to make your recipes healthier. Cook with broth (low-sodium vegetable, low-fat chicken or beef) instead of with oils. Use vinaigrettes or citrus-juice-based dressings instead of creamy ones, which are often full of saturated fat. Try olive oil, skim milk, or yogurt instead of butter or cream. Re-work dessert recipes that require heavy cream with evaporated skim milk or yogurt. For cakes and other desserts, substitute fresh-fruit puree as a topping instead of frosting. And one of my favorites: pancakes with applesauce, not maple syrup.
