Pizza Crust Recipe

2 1/4 – 3/4 cups
1 tablespoon
1/2 teaspoon
1/2 teaspoon
1 cup
1/3 cup
onion powder

Pan Type: 16" pizza pan

Pizza Crust Directions

In a large mixing bowl, add 1 1/2 cups of flour, salt and onion powder.
Turn mixer on low to blend.
In a 2 cup bowl add the milk and shortening.
Heat in microwave until it registers 120°, shortening does not need to melt.
Pour milk and shortening into mixing bowl with the flour mixture and beat until smooth.
With mixer on low setting, add the remaining flour a little at time. Scrape the side of bowl as you mix.
Pat the dough by hand evenly over bottom pizza pan.
Build up the pizza crust edges slightly.
Use your favorite toppings or Free Gourmet Pizza Recipe.

Note: I use my new Kitchen Aid mixer, so adding the second amount of flour is not a big problem for me.
If you have trouble mixing in the second amount of flour with your mixer, you can easily mix it in by hand.

Substitute, substitute, substitute. Recipes were made to be messed with. Use alternative ingredients to make your recipes healthier. Cook with broth (low-sodium vegetable, low-fat chicken or beef) instead of with oils. Use vinaigrettes or citrus-juice-based dressings instead of creamy ones, which are often full of saturated fat. Try olive oil, skim milk, or yogurt instead of butter or cream. Re-work dessert recipes that require heavy cream with evaporated skim milk or yogurt. For cakes and other desserts, substitute fresh-fruit puree as a topping instead of frosting. And one of my favorites: pancakes with applesauce, not maple syrup. These changes will give your favorite recipes great new flavor, and your food will be healthier!
