Slow Cooked Stew Recipe

1 – 16 ounce bag
8 ounces
6 stalks
1 – 16 ounce can
2 tablespoons
1 teaspoon
1 teaspoon
1/4 teaspoon
3 tablespoons
1/4 cup
beef round steak
small red potatoes
small boiling onions
baby carrots
mushroom, sliced
celery, sliced
beef broth
Worcestershire sauce
dry mustard

Crock Pot Temp: low
Recipe Cooking Time: 5 hours
Pan Type: crock pot

Slow Cooked Stew Directions

Cut the stew meat into bite size pieces and put pot.
Add the whole potatoes, onions, baby carrots, sliced mushrooms, sliced celery, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, dry mustard, salt and pepper.
Slow cook for allotted time.
Check stew after 4 1/2 hours, if the vegetables are almost tender increase the setting to high.
In a small bowl mix the cornstarch and water.
Gently stir into stew pot.
Cover and cook stew until vegetables are tender and broth has thickened.
Serve slow cooked stew with your favorite bread and drink.

Substitute, substitute, substitute. Recipes were made to be messed with. Use alternative ingredients to make your recipes healthier. Cook with broth (low-sodium vegetable, low-fat chicken or beef) instead of with oils. Use vinaigrettes or citrus-juice-based dressings instead of creamy ones, which are often full of saturated fat. Try olive oil, skim milk, or yogurt instead of butter or cream. Re-work dessert recipes that require heavy cream with evaporated skim milk or yogurt. For cakes and other desserts, substitute fresh-fruit puree as a topping instead of frosting. And one of my favorites: pancakes with applesauce, not maple syrup. These changes will give your favorite recipes great new flavor, and your food will be healthier!
