Beth’s Malt Shop Pie Recipe

1 quart
1/2 cup
1 tablespoon
1 – 8 ounce container
3 tablespoons
1 – 9"
1/4 cup
vanilla ice cream
malted milk balls, crushed
Cool Whip
instant chocolate flavored malted milk powder
graham cracker crust
malted milk balls, crushed

Recipe Pan Type: 9" pie plate

Malt Shope Pie Directions

Place a medium size bowl in freezer 5 minutes.
Place the ice cream in chilled bowl and stir to soften.
Stir in the crushed malted milk balls and the 1 tablespoon milk. Spread ice cream mixture into pie crust.
Cover and place in the freezer while preparing top layer.
In a medium size bowl gently blend the malted milk powder with the Cool Whip.
Spread mixture over top of pie.
Sprinkle the top with the 1/4 cup crushed malted milk balls. Return to freezer until firm.

Substitute, substitute, substitute. Recipes were made to be messed with. Use alternative ingredients to make your recipes healthier. Cook with broth (low-sodium vegetable, low-fat chicken or beef) instead of with oils. Use vinaigrettes or citrus-juice-based dressings instead of creamy ones, which are often full of saturated fat. Try olive oil, skim milk, or yogurt instead of butter or cream. Re-work dessert recipes that require heavy cream with evaporated skim milk or yogurt. For cakes and other desserts, substitute fresh-fruit puree as a topping instead of frosting. And one of my favorites: pancakes with applesauce, not maple syrup. These changes will give your favorite recipes great new flavor, and your food will be healthier!
