Cocoa Layer Bar Recipe

butter, softened
granulated sugar
eggs
milk
vanilla
all purpose flour
baking cocoa
salt
baking powder
brown sugar, packed firm
egg whites
walnuts, chopped
chocolate chips

nonstick pan spray

Oven Temp: 350°
Recipe Cooking Time: 35 minutes
Pan Type: baking pan


Cocoa Layer Bar Directions

Preheat your oven. Spray pan with nonstick pan spray.

In a large mixing bowl combine the softened butter, sugar and eggs.
Beat with electric mixer until fluffy.
Stir in the milk and vanilla.
Add the flour, baking cocoa, salt and baking powder and mix until dry ingredients are well blended.
In a clean mixing bowl beat the egg whites until stiff.
Add the sugar and nuts and mix well.
Spread evenly on top of flour mixture.
Sprinkle the chocolate chips on top.
Bake cocoa layer bars for the allotted time.
Cool on wire racks before cutting.
Serve cocoa bars along with your favorite drink.

Recipe Makes: about 24 bars
