Layered Sausage Casserole Recipe

2 pound
8 sliced
3 cups
4 large
1 – 4 ounce can
2 1/2 cups
3/4 teaspoon
1/2 teaspoon
1/4 teaspoon
1 can
1 – 4 ounce can
sausage links, cut in half
bread, cubed
sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
mushrooms, drained
dry mustard
cream of mushroom soup
green chilies, diced

non stick pan spray

Oven Temp: 325°
Recipe Cooking Time: 60 – 70 minutes
Pan Type: 9 x 13" baking pan

Layered Sausage Casserole Directions

Preheat your oven.

Spray pan with nonstick pan spray.

Brown the sausages cut in half and drain on paper towels.

Layer the bread cubes in bottom of pan. Layer shredded cheese on top of the bread cubes. Layer the cooked and cut sausage on top of the cheese.

In a medium bowl beat the eggs until fluffy. Add the drained mushrooms, dry mustard, salt, pepper, soup and the diced green chilies. Beat well and pour over casserole.

Bake layered sausage casserole in a preheated oven for the allotted time or until set.

Substitute, substitute, substitute. Recipes were made to be messed with. Use alternative ingredients to make your recipes healthier. Cook with broth (low-sodium vegetable, low-fat chicken or beef) instead of with oils. Use vinaigrettes or citrus-juice-based dressings instead of creamy ones, which are often full of saturated fat. Try olive oil, skim milk, or yogurt instead of butter or cream. Re-work dessert recipes that require heavy cream with evaporated skim milk or yogurt. For cakes and other desserts, substitute fresh-fruit puree as a topping instead of frosting. And one of my favorites: pancakes with applesauce, not maple syrup. These changes will give your favorite recipes great new flavor, and your food will be healthier!
