Sloppy Joe Casserole Recipe

1 – 8 ounce package
1 envelope
1 pound
1 – 6 ounce can
1 1/4 cups
1 – 16 ounce
1 cup
shell macaroni
sloppy Joe mix
lean ground beef
tomato paste
container of cottage cheese
cheddar cheese, shredded

Oven Temp: 350°
Recipe Cooking Time: 45 to 50 min.
Pan Type: 2 1/2 quart casserole dish

Sloppy Joe Casserole Directions

Preheat your oven.

Cook the macaroni according to package directions. Turn out into colander to drain.

In the meantime brown the ground beef, drain. Add the sloppy Joe seasoning mix, tomato paste and water. Simmer 15 minutes.

Layer the casserole dish with 1/2 of the cooked pasta, 1/2 of the cottage cheese mixture and 1/2 of the meat mixture. Repeat layers.

Top sloppy joe casserole with the shredded cheddar cheese.

Bake sloppy joe uncovered for the allotted time.

Substitute, substitute, substitute. Recipes were made to be messed with. Use alternative ingredients to make your recipes healthier. Cook with broth (low-sodium vegetable, low-fat chicken or beef) instead of with oils. Use vinaigrettes or citrus-juice-based dressings instead of creamy ones, which are often full of saturated fat. Try olive oil, skim milk, or yogurt instead of butter or cream. Re-work dessert recipes that require heavy cream with evaporated skim milk or yogurt. For cakes and other desserts, substitute fresh-fruit puree as a topping instead of frosting. And one of my favorites: pancakes with applesauce, not maple syrup. These changes will give your favorite recipes great new flavor, and your food will be healthier!
