Favorite Baked Beans Recipe

2 cups
6 slices
1 cup
1 large
3/4 cup
2 teaspoons
1 tablespoons
small white beans
onion, chopped
brown sugar
prepared mustard

Oven Temp: 300°
Recipe Cooking Time: 6 hours
Pan Type: dutch oven or roasting pan with lid

Favorite Baked Beans Directions

Preheat your oven.

Wash and sort the beans, fill pan with 6 cups water, cover and soak overnight.

Drain favorite beans and place into Dutch oven or roasting pan with lid. Cut bacon and add to beans, add ketchup, mustard, onion, brown sugar and salt. Add enough water to cover 1/2 – 3/4 of an inch above beans. Place beans on the stovetop until they reach a boil, at this time place beans in oven and continue baking, stirring occasionally;

Add more water if needed to keep favorite baked beans moist.

Bake beans until beans are tender and of desired consistency.

Making your own baked beans to serve with barbequed ribs will become a family favorite and lifetime tradition.

Substitute, substitute, substitute. Recipes were made to be messed with. Use alternative ingredients to make your recipes healthier. Cook with broth (low-sodium vegetable, low-fat chicken or beef) instead of with oils. Use vinaigrettes or citrus-juice-based dressings instead of creamy ones, which are often full of saturated fat. Try olive oil, skim milk, or yogurt instead of butter or cream. Re-work dessert recipes that require heavy cream with evaporated skim milk or yogurt. For cakes and other desserts, substitute fresh-fruit puree as a topping instead of frosting. And one of my favorites: pancakes with applesauce, not maple syrup. These changes will give your favorite recipes great new flavor, and your food will be healthier!
