Sid's Calico Beans Recipe

6 slices
1 large
1/3 cup
1 tablespoon
1 16 ounce can
1 16 ounce can
1 can
1/3 cup
1/4 pound
regular cut bacon
onion, chopped
Worcestershire sauce
white lima beans, un drained
kidney beans, un drained
B & M baked beans, un drained
brown sugar, packed firm
American cheese, cubed

Oven Temp: 350°
Recipe Cooking Time: 30 to 45 minutes
Pan Type: 1 1/2 quart casserole dish

Preheat your oven.

Cut bacon into 1 inch pieces.

Cook bacon in a heat skillet until crisp, remove from pan and drain on paper towels.

In a 1 1/2 quart casserole dish add the chopped onion, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, lima beans, kidney beans, baked beans, sugar and cheese.
Mix well.
Crumble bacon and stir into the calico bean casserole.
Place in hot oven to bake.

Recipe Serves: 8 to 10

Substitute, substitute, substitute. Recipes were made to be messed with. Use alternative ingredients to make your recipes healthier. Cook with broth (low-sodium vegetable, low-fat chicken or beef) instead of with oils. Use vinaigrettes or citrus-juice-based dressings instead of creamy ones, which are often full of saturated fat. Try olive oil, skim milk, or yogurt instead of butter or cream. Re-work dessert recipes that require heavy cream with evaporated skim milk or yogurt. For cakes and other desserts, substitute fresh-fruit puree as a topping instead of frosting. And one of my favorites: pancakes with applesauce, not maple syrup. These changes will give your favorite recipes great new flavor, and your food will be healthier!
