Spicy Pear Oatmeal Recipe

Spicy Pear Oatmeal in a Bowl

1 1/2 cups
1/8 teaspoon
1/2 teaspoon
3 tablespoons
2 tablespoons
3/4 cup
2 tablespoons
2 teaspoons
whole oats
fresh pear, chopped, unpeeled
walnuts, chopped

Recipe Pan Type: medium saucepan

Pear Oatmeal Directions

In a small saucepan combine the water, salt and nutmeg. Bring to a boil, then add the raisins, Craisins and oats. Cook over medium heat stirring occasionally for 5 minutes.

Remove oatmeal from heat.

Core and chop the pear, place into pan with oatmeal. Add the walnuts and butter to the pear oatmeal. Gently stir until butter is melted. Serve spicy pear oatmeal with sugar and milk if desired.

Recipe Serves: about 2 bowls

Note: When it is hard to get your picky eaters to have a healthy breakfast, this spicy pear oatmeal will fool the best of them.

Another Note: We make spicy pear oatmeal for breakfast every time our family gets together. It's good, healthy and taste wonderful. Most good and healthy foods are made from healthy ingredients that will keep you as healthy as you can be. Always try to shop local for as many of the ingredients as you can. Substitute, substitute, substitute. Recipes were made to be messed with. Use alternative ingredients to make your recipes healthier. Cook with broth (low-sodium vegetable, low-fat chicken or beef) instead of with oils. Use vinaigrettes or citrus-juice-based dressings instead of creamy ones, which are often full of saturated fat. Try olive oil, skim milk, or yogurt instead of butter or cream. Re-work dessert recipes that require heavy cream with evaporated skim milk or yogurt. For cakes and other desserts, substitute fresh-fruit puree as a topping instead of frosting. And one of my favorites: pancakes with applesauce, not maple syrup. These changes will give your favorite recipes great new flavor, and your food will be healthier!
