Poppy seed bread recipe. This is another one of those family favorite recipes that is stored away in my grandma’s cookbook she gave each of us kids and is one that is highlighted, starred and bookmarked. The flavor and texture of this Poppy Seed Bread is perfect. It is super easy to make and is a crowd favorite. You will LOVE it!

3 large eggs
1 cup oil
2 1/4 cups granulated sugar
1 1/2 cups milk
3 cups all purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 1/2 tablespoons poppy seeds
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon almond flavoring
1 teaspoon butter flavoring

Glaze:
1/4 cup orange juice
3/4 cup powdered sugar
1/4 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 teaspoon butter flavoring
1/4 teaspoon almond flavoring

Oven Temp: 350°
Recipe Cooking Time:
Pan Type: 9 x 5" bread loaf pan


Poppy Seed Bread Directions

Preheat oven and spray bread pan with non stick baking spray.

Combine in a large mixing bowl, the eggs, oil and sugar.
Mix well. Stir in the milk.
Add the flour, salt, baking powder, poppy seeds, vanilla, almond flavoring and butter flavoring.
Mix poppy seed bread batter well and pour into your prepared pans.
Bake poppy seed bread for the allotted time.

Cool slightly and then pour glaze on top of poppy seed bread.

Bread Glaze: Combine orange juice, powdered sugar, vanilla, butter flavoring and almond flavoring. Beat until smooth and then pour over poppy seed bread. Add glaze while bread is still warm.

Substitute, substitute, substitute. Recipes were made to be messed with. Use alternative ingredients to make your recipes healthier. Cook with broth (low-sodium vegetable, low-fat chicken or beef) instead of with oils. Use vinaigrettes or citrus-juice-based dressings instead of creamy ones, which are often full of saturated fat.
