Cake Doughnut Recipe

2 cups
1 1/2 cups
4 large
1 teaspoon
1 teaspoon
3 teaspoons
1/4 teaspoon
5 cups

dairy sour cream
granulated sugar
baking soda
baking powder

oil for frying

Cooking Temp: 350°
Recipe Pan Type: deep fat fryer

Doughnut Directions

Preheat your deep fat fryer.

In a large mixing bowl combine the dairy sour cream, buttermilk, sugar and eggs, then mix them together with a wire whip.
Add the baking soda, salt, baking powder, nutmeg and flour, stirring until all doughnut recipe ingredients are moistened.
Cover cake doughnut batter and let set for 3 hours.

Drop by well rounded teaspoons into the hot fryer.
Fry until cake doughnuts are golden brown.

Remove from fryer with a slotted spoon, then drain onto paper towels.
Dip cake doughnuts into sugar or frost with your favorite flavor of icing.

Substitute, substitute, substitute. Recipes were made to be messed with. Use alternative ingredients to make your recipes healthier. Cook with broth (low-sodium vegetable, low-fat chicken or beef) instead of with oils. Use vinaigrettes or citrus-juice-based dressings instead of creamy ones, which are often full of saturated fat. Try olive oil, skim milk, or yogurt instead of butter or cream. Re-work dessert recipes that require heavy cream with evaporated skim milk or yogurt. For cakes and other desserts, substitute fresh-fruit puree as a topping instead of frosting. And one of my favorites: pancakes with applesauce, not maple syrup. These changes will give your favorite recipes great new flavor, and your food will be healthier!
