Baking Powder Biscuits Recipe

2 cups
1 tablespoon
1 teaspoon
1/4 cup
3/4 cup
all purpose flour
baking powder

Oven Temp: 450°
Recipe Cooking Time: 8 – 10 minutes
Pan Type: baking pan

Baking Powder Biscuits Directions

Preheat the oven.

In a large mixing bowl combine the flour, baking soda and salt. Stir to blend.
Add the shortening and use a fork to cut it in until crumbly.
Add the milk and stir with a fork until dry ingredients are moistened.
On a lightly floured surface knead the baking powder biscuits dough 10 times.
Roll biscuits out to 1/2” thick and cut out with a biscuit cutter.
Bake the baking powder biscuits on a un greased pan for the allotted time or until lightly brown and done in the middle.

Recipe Serves: about 12

Substitute, substitute, substitute. Recipes were made to be messed with. Use alternative ingredients to make your recipes healthier. Cook with broth (low-sodium vegetable, low-fat chicken or beef) instead of with oils. Use vinaigrettes or citrus-juice-based dressings instead of creamy ones, which are often full of saturated fat. Try olive oil, skim milk, or yogurt instead of butter or cream. Re-work dessert recipes that require heavy cream with evaporated skim milk or yogurt. For cakes and other desserts, substitute fresh-fruit puree as a topping instead of frosting. And one of my favorites: pancakes with applesauce, not maple syrup. These changes will give your favorite recipes great new flavor, and your food will be healthier!
